2/7/2004 Visited Fort Ballance. The caretakers house at Fort Ballance has gone.
Demolished? Removed? Anyone know? Most likely mid 2004 as people who have corresponded with me have talked about a caretaker letting them in.

ERRATA : Wellington Public Hospital's 210 Block was not built for military use (unlike was listed in the Remains list on this site) . However there was another block that was (and has long since been demolished).

****

The Krupp gun that once sat by the gates to Newtown Park has been cleaned up and now sits on top of the Gun Emplacement of the Gardens Battery (by the old Dominion Observatory) in Wellington's Botanic Gardens.

****

The Student? hostel 213-217 Taranaki Street is nearing completion. The old outhouse on the site does not appear to remain.

The Gardens Battery and the Dominion Observatory (built over the battery's magazine) are now looked after by the Dept of Conservation

The only remains of Fort Dorset are the remains of magazines, gun emplacements etc. along the ridge south of the Dorset Cove subdivision.

The area of the old north sportsfield, Nui Dat and Terendak is the Point Dorset Subdivision
